Pre-Conference Workshops
Held on Thursday, September 18th
Increase your knowledge and hone technical skills at ASFNR's pre-conference workshops!
This year we're offering three optional workshops for attendees to choose from:
BOLD fMRI | Perfusion Imaging | PET-MR
BOLD fMRI Workshop
Workshop Description
This full day workshop provides didactic and hands-on experience with clinical fMRI, including task-based language and motor mapping, as well as an introduction to resting-state fMRI. The aim of the workshop is to equip attendees with the foundation to begin or enhance their own clinical fMRI program. There will be hands-on experience with NordicNeuroLab and Prism software.
Course Directors:
Erik Middlebrooks, MD
Vince Kumar, MD
Perfusion Imaging Workshop
Workshop Description
This full-day workshop will cover applications of perfusion imaging related to stroke and neuro-oncology. During the first half of the workshop, we will review the basic techniques of CT perfusion and MRI perfusion techniques such as dynamic susceptibility contrast and arterial spin labeling , as they pertain to acute ischemic stroke. We will then focus on how perfusion imaging can be utilized for detection and prognostication in stroke caused by vessel occlusions through case illustrations. Lastly, through a case-based review, we will touch on the utility of perfusion imaging with respect to stroke mimics.
In the second half of this workshop, we will do a deep dive into the application of perfusion imaging in neuro-oncology. Through expert-led lectures and an interactive hands-on session, attendees will gain practical experience in post-processing and interpretation of tumor perfusion imaging. This workshop will focus on how MR perfusion can aid in further classifying brain tumors, assessing treatment response, and differentiating neoplasms from their imaging mimics, providing critical insights for clinical decision-making.
Course Directors: Vivek Yedavalli, MD & Amit Desai, MD
PET-MR Workshop
Workshop Description
This half-day workshop provides practical didactic and hands-on experience with clinical PET-MRI, including use of surface and blended images for the enhanced diagnosis of different neurological diseases. Attendees will gain familiarity with the indications, advantages and imaging appearance of PET studies for dementia, epilepsy and other diseases through a case-based review with experts.
Course Directors:
Tim Shepherd, MD & Maria Ponisio, MD
AI Workshop
Topics of Discussion:
Neuroradiology Data Preparation
Setting up the Compute Environment
DL Classroom: Neuroradiology Segmentation
DL Classroom: Neuroradiology Classification
A didactic session on LLMs/LLVMs
DL Classroom: LLM’s in Neuroradiology
Evaluating AI vendors
Workshop Description (Registration closed)
The ASNR and ASFNR societies partner to offer an education program focused on the topic of “AI for Neuroradiology,” and seeks to train its attendees and make them effective leaders and collaborators in AI projects. The program’s target audience include clinical neuroradiologists and radiology trainees, as well as computational researchers, data scientists, and PhD faculty engaged in neuroimaging research.
