Awards & Accolades

The ASFNR is proud to offer a number of awards to assist trainees, medical students, early career neuroradiologists, and under-represented radiologists in their research endeavors. Learn more about the various criteria, application deadlines, and eligibility for each award below!

ASFNR-NMA Joint Award

The American Society of Functional Neuroradiology (ASFNR) and the National Medical Association (NMA) are very proud to announce a joint Award with the goal of increasing the number of underrepresented minority radiologists engaged in the field of functional neuroradiology.

Eligibility: Under-represented radiology residents, neuroradiology fellows, and junior faculty/in-practice radiologists. ASNFR and/or NMA membership is encouraged, but not required.

Award Frequency: Bi-Annual

ASFNR-AAWR “Carolyn C. Meltzer” Joint Award

The American Society of Functional Neuroradiology (ASFNR) and the American Association for Women in Radiology (AAWR) are very proud to announce a new, joint award, entitled the ASFNR-AAWR “Carolyn C. Meltzer” Joint Award. This Award aims to increase the number of women in radiology engaged in the field of functional neuroradiology. 

Eligibility: The Award is open to female faculty and trainees. ASNFR and/or AAWR membership are encouraged, but not required. Trainees and early career faculty are encouraged to apply. 

Award Frequency: Bi-Annual

ASFNR-LMSA Joint Award

The American Society of Functional Neuroradiology (ASFNR) and the Latino Medical Student Association (LMSA) are proud to announce a joint award for members of the LMSA.

Eligibility: Under-represented medical students with interest in radiology and with current membership in LMSA.

Award Frequency: Bi-Annual

ASFNR John L. Ulmer Translational Trainee Award

The John L. Ulmer Award is awarded each year to a research project that will contribute to the clinical translation of advanced neuroimaging techniques.

Eligibility: Applicant must be a neuroradiology fellow, radiology or nuclear medicine resident, or a medical student, graduate student, or undergraduate student. Applicant should have ASFNR Members-in-Training status, and their research must involve an advanced neuroimaging technique.

Award Frequency: Annual

Fellows of the ASFNR

The FASFNR is an honor conferred on individuals who have been members of the ASFNR for at least 10 consecutive years and are recognized for their significant contribution to the society in our field of advanced neuroimaging.

Eligibility: To apply, you must be a member in good standing of ASFNR and have at least 10 consecutive years of membership (check with ASFNR central office).

Award Frequency: Annual

Victor M. Haughton Honorary Lectures

Each year, a distinguished faculty member is selected to present the Victor M. Haughton Honorary Lecture at the annual ASFNR meeting.

Consideration is given to faculty who have made significant contributions to the field of neuroradiology, or who are recognized as pioneers of a particular technology/topic. There is no application process.

Award Frequency: Annual
